They send their kids to school here, they use local doctors and hospitals, and they have Midwestern work ethics and values – just like you. Meet Our Staff
Prior to working with HomeChoice Senior Care, Koleene owned and operated several Sylvan Learning Centers across Iowa. She then worked as a consultant for small- to medium-sized businesses throughout the United States. Koleene became owner and executive director of HomeChoice in 2009. She attributes the success of HomeChoice to the committed staff of caregivers who work with clients each day, and the strong, supportive management team. Koleene and her husband have four children. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, crafting and showing American Quarter Horses with her daughters.
Operations Director, Cedar Rapids & Iowa City
Curtis brings more than 20 years of operational and leadership expertise to HomeChoice Senior Care. He provides case management services to our clients and their families by working on their behalf to coordinate both internal and external services. Prior to joining HomeChoice, Curtis worked with individuals with intellectual, physical and mental disabilities. He is a certified leadership and management trainer, and he plays a vital role in the ongoing coaching, training and development of our caregivers. Curtis has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and will be earning his master’s degree in social work. As much of his spare time as possible is spent with his precious granddaughters.
Operations Director, Des Moines
Evan began working as a caregiver for HomeChoice Senior Care in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City markets when he was in high school. While attending college at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, he continued to work as an on-call or substitute caregiver during his breaks and summers. After graduation, he returned to HomeChoice and worked his way up to manager of the Des Moines office. Evan says his experience as a caregiver has helped him understand the daily challenges caregivers face and the rewards they receive. He enjoys supporting the HomeChoice staff through professional growth and networking with senior services referral partners, to promote the best possible care for individuals and their families. In his spare time, Evan works on a “fixer-upper” home. He is also fluent in Spanish and loves to travel.
Client Services Director, Cedar Rapids & Iowa City
During her junior year of college at the University of Iowa, Allison searched for the right career that would give her a feeling of purpose. She knew she wanted to work with people, but hadn’t found the right fit. She happened upon a job advertisement for HomeChoice Senior Care, applied, and became a part-time caregiver. She fell in love with the home care industry after working just a few shifts. Upon completing an internship with HomeChoice and graduating with a degree in social work, Allison became a case manager for older adults on Medicaid for the State of Iowa. She returned to HomeChoice as a client services director for the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City markets. She applies her case management and caregiving experience to help our clients stay where they call home as long as possible. Allison lives in North Liberty with her husband, Tyler, and their boxer, Ellie.
Client Services Director, Des Moines
Before joining the HomeChoice team, Jessica worked in finance, but her passion for helping others and strong relationships with her grandparents lead her to a career working with older adults. Jessica is originally from St. Louis, Missouri. She has a master’s degree in gerontology – the branch of science that deals with aging and the problems of older persons. Her goals are to promote healthy and successful aging and to help communities become better places for seniors and their families. Jessica provides case management services to our Des Moines clients and families to ensure their care wishes and needs are met. Jessica also supports our caregiver team by providing supervision and training to ensure they give the best possible care.
Marketing Director, Cedar Rapids & Iowa City
Jen educates and connects senior services referral partners to help promote the best possible care for patients and their families. Jen graduated from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with a degree in elementary education. She worked as director of education for Sylvan Learning Center in Cedar Rapids for several years before taking some time to focus on her role as mother to twin boys. Over the next 10 years, Jen and her husband, Brent, added another little man and two dogs to their family. In 2016, Jen joined HomeChoice Senior Care and says she, “thoroughly enjoys the community of people she works with every day.” Her spunky personality and amazing red curls make her memorable to everyone, no matter how they cross paths.
Accounting and Office Manager
Sheri was born and raised in Waterloo and has always lived in Iowa, except for spending two years in Georgia while her husband served in the United States Marine Corp. She has an associate degree in accounting from Hawkeye Community College. Continuing her college education was put on hold while she and her husband raised their two children. She is now on track to graduate from Upper Iowa University in October 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Sheri has worked in the accounting field for more than 20 years. Before coming to HomeChoice, she served as the office manager of a nonprofit organization in Iowa City. Sheri lives in North Liberty with her husband and their two dogs.
Taylor started her career with HomeChoice as a caregiver and was quickly promoted to our scheduling team and then to scheduling manager. She coordinates the staffing for all three HomeChoice markets, making sure the needs of all clients and caregivers are met. Her caregiving experience and calm personality make her the perfect fit for this important job. Taylor is originally from Fort Madison and received a degree in criminal justice from Kirkwood Community College. In her free time, she likes to play softball, cook on the grill, and hang out with her dog Nyko. Taylor recently purchased her first home.
Shelby calls herself an average small-town girl. She grew up in Kirksville, Missouri, and moved to Iowa shortly after the birth of her son, Jaxen. Prior to becoming a caregiver with HomeChoice, Shelby worked at an Alzheimer’s nursing home. As a staffing specialist, she assists with managing client and caregiver schedules and with the onboarding process for new caregivers. She also fills in as a caregiver when needed. Shelby has an outgoing, aspiring and warm personality that drives her to provide the best care possible to all our clients. In her free time, Shelby enjoys just “hanging” at home and playing with her beautiful little boy.
Staffing Specialist and Lifeline Program Manager
Courtney started as a caregiver for HomeChoice Senior Care while pursuing a nursing degree. She was promoted to the position of staffing specialist in our Cedar Rapids corporate office, where she oversees the onboarding process of new caregivers. In addition, Courtney manages our Lifeline program, installing new units and providing customer service. She is also a full-time student at Mount Mercy University, studying human resource management. Outside of her busy work and school schedule, Courtney enjoys having fun with friends and family, attending musical events, and traveling.
